Quick Comment on Iran Demonstrations

President Obama has acted as the typical poll watching Democrat in being silent on the election protests in Iran until the direction they are taking became more obvious.  He has now made a statement in support of the protestors.  Reports are that his heitation is due to the belief that he can negotiate over nukes with Amadinajad.  How crazy is this?  After completely failing to get any cooperation from the Europeans who love him, he still expects to be able to negotiate with the hardline face of the dictatorial Iranian mullahs.  And, for the miniscule chance of a deal, he leaves these brave protestors without the support that the entire world expects the United States to automaticaly give to freedom loving people everywhere.   I see this as a huge missed oportunity for him to at least somewhat counteract the reputaion he is earning (at least among Conservatives) for being cavalier with our freedoms here in the U.S.  However, it's certainly in character with his hesitation on dealing with the Somali Pirates.

I'm glad our Congress stepped up to the plate in support of Freedom even as our Presindent hesitated.

Sensitivty Training on College Campuses

It seems that just after I graduated from college (undergraduate), "Thought Reform" curriculums were begun on college campuses to "treat" and correct allegedly incorrect thoughts.  The general direction of the reprogrammings, of course, were designed to "cure" the typical faults that liberals and the political left find with America and American culture: consumerism, social injustice, the need for affirmative action (racism), world redistribution of wealth, and so on.  An article I read by Adam Kissel focuses particularly on the program conducted by RAs at Delaware University.  According to the article, a freshman at Delaware couldn't escape the "ideological, highly politicized" messages (there were mandatory one on one sessions and the program had teeth).  This program was part of  a worldwide "sustainabilty education" movement (where have we heard the sustainabilty catch phrase lately...our president used it in a speech recently concerning Health Care).  The United Nations (who else) declared 2005-2014 the "Decade of Education for Sustainable Development"  UNESCO is the lead agency for the program (funny how statists always hide behind women and children).

Anyway, I don't want to go on too long here, but I just wanted to pass on a few catch phrases and issues I've become aware of so people's ears will perk up when they hear them.  The Foundation for Individual Rights in Education (FIRE) was formed in 1999 to fight these types of efforts on our campuses (see www.thefire.org) for more insights into this issue.
